Position Summary:
The Programme Planner, CE works across a mini portfolio including Discovery Channel HD, Discovery Science, Discovery World and Discovery Historia. It involves working closely with the Programme Planning Manager, CE and the Channel Team in Warsaw and London to devise schedules that will rate highly and appeal to all stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Develop the long range & monthly program strategy and schedules for the portfolio, taking in to account ratings, commercial minutage requirements, HD quotas, affiliate requirements and regional needs.
• Liaise with Research to develop a full understanding of ratings information and impact on the schedule.
• Understand competitor channels and market influences and their impact on Discovery’s portfolio of channels.
• Build knowledge of library and how best to utilize programme assets in the local market
• Advise the Programme Planning Manager with respect to Discovery’s portfolio programming strategy.
• Communicate strategy and schedules internally.
• Creation of stunts/events/strands/themes for the purpose of audience growth and which create marketing/PR and non-standard ad sales opportunities.
• Monitor and analyze the strategy and schedule of the chosen channels, to optimize programming and promotion activities.
• To be aware of programming initiatives across the CEEMEA portfolio and their impact on the portfolio.
• Liaise with teams in London and across EMEA to ensure strategies are devised that meet goals, that technical issues are overcome and that programmes are premiered and promoted effectively.
• Present content and strategy in internal meetings. Be the ambassador for some of certain brands. Passion, enthusiasm and knowledge are needed.
• Input of program schedule into the IBMS database
• Support CE Programming Team with schedule changes and cover on other brands when needed.
Requirements:
• IT competence: Able to learn how to use IBMS, Microsoft Office and other systems quickly
• Clear understanding of the Discovery brands and a passion for the factual entertainment genre.
• Positive attitude & team spirit – a ‘yes we can’ attitude
• Good time management/planning/delivery
• Excellent Attention to detail.
• Good understanding of TV business and audience trends in Europe
• Strong interpersonal skills – a great communicator. Concise and confident.
• Good spoken and written English.
• Self starter/works well without immediate supervision
• Accommodating and able to adjust and act quickly
